CHE Adams insisted international side Scotland “can take anyone on our day” after a draw with Saints teammate Jan Bednarek’s Poland.

The Tartan Army are still in with a shout of reaching the World Cup in Qatar later this year, but have Ukraine and then Wales stood in their path to get there.

Scotland are likely to meet Ukraine in June, and if they win at Hampden Park they will have to travel to Cardiff – after Gareth Bale inspired the Welsh to victory over Austria.

Adams started in the 1-1 drew versus Poland this week, in a friendly clash, where Scotland led until a controversial penalty in additional time.

They will next face playoff losers Austria in another friendly next week, and are unbeaten in seven matches – keeping five clean sheets in that run.

“A few months ago we would have snatched your hand off for that result (versus Poland),” Adams said, as reported by the Scottish Daily Express.

“But to come away with a draw in a game like that, now it seems like a negative. But it’s not. It just shows you the leaps and bounds this team has come on.

“We’ve got great camaraderie in this team. Everyone knows their position and their jobs and we have great quality. We know what we can do and everyone can see that out on the pitch.

“They can see how together we are and how demanding we are of each other. We know we can turn it on when we want to with the quality we have in this squad."

Asked if it feels like the Scotland side, which also includes Saints star Stuart Armstrong, is on the verge of registering an enormous achievement, Adams agreed.

“Yes, exactly. You can see how much belief we have got in the squad that we are gutted with a draw against top opposition,” he added.

“We just have to dust ourselves off and take the positives.I think we dominated the game for the majority of the match.

“We slipped at the end by conceding a penalty, which was quite harsh. But these things happen. We are still unbeaten and we just need to keep building momentum.

“I think we can take anyone on our day, to be honest. We make demands on each other every day in training, and we have belief. It’s up to us to take that onto the pitch.”
