LEICESTER City are reportedly snatching Saints’ head of scouting and recruitment, Martyn Glover, and will cause a tug of war ahead of the summer transfer window.

Former Everton, Sunderland, Leeds, West Ham and Blackburn recruitment chief, Glover, arrived at St Mary’s from Goodison Park in 2019 and has orchestrated big business for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Glover is credited with the acquisitions of the likes of Che Adams, Kyle Walker-Peters, Mohammed Salisu, Tino Livramento and Adam Armstrong amongst others.

Leicester City’s head of recruitment, Lee Congerton, was confirmed to be exiting the club in March – for Italian side Atalanta.

The Athletic report that the Foxes have turned to Glover of Saints to fill the void left by Congerton’s exit, but the timing is poor for Saints ahead of an anticipated busy summer window.

Coming up in June is the first off-season transfer window of Sport Republic’s ownership, following a £100million acquisition of the club back in January this year.

With Hasenhuttl’s side so far failing to achieve their desired goal of a top-half finish in the Premier League, and a number of players on expiring contracts over the next 18 months, there is the expectation of plenty of work to be done.

That is why The Athletic add it is unclear when Glover will be able to complete the switch to King Power Stadium, as Saints want him to oversee a notice period that would see him work through the summer window and into the autumn.

Understandably, Leicester also reportedly want him to oversee their summer business and help director of football Jon Rudkin – but will have to come to an agreement for his release.

Should Saints lose Glover earlier than they would like, it would leave them with another challenge to overcome ahead of a crucial and novel transfer window this summer.
