SAINTS captain James Ward-Prowse has been nominated for the Premier League’s EA Sports Player of the Season award for 2021-22.

The 27-year-old midfielder finds his name on the prestigious eight-man shortlist alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah and Heung-min Son.

Ward-Prowse has contributed nine goals and a further five assists from the middle of the park this campaign, including four strikes from direct free-kicks.

Also making up the shortlist is Kevin De Bruyne, Jarrod Bowen, Joao Cancelo, Bukayo Saka and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Ward-Prowse is the only nominee not to come from a top-six club.

The England international completed a clean sweep of awards with the fans’, players’ and goal of the season at Saints’ award night at St Mary’s over a week ago.

He looks to cement a place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
