SAINTS' board are considering making "major changes" to Ralph Hasenhuttl's backroom staff, according to a report by The Sun.

Hasenhuttl's side endured a woeful slump to end the Premier League campaign, picking up just five points from their final 12 top-flight fixtures.

That culminated in a 4-1 loss at Leicester City on Sunday, which saw Saints finish in 15th, for a second season in a row.

Having looked like a first top-half finish under Hasenhuttl was distinctly possible in February, to finish 15th on 40 points, three fewer than the 2020-21 campaign leaves plenty of disappointment going into the summer.

And The Sun now report "major changes are in the pipeline" at Saints with boss Hasenhuttl "fighting to keep his job". They claim Dragan Solak and Rasmus Ankersen of Sport Republic are "demanding changes" following the slump in the second half of the season.

Two options are reportedly being weighed up - to either sack Hasenhuttl or keep him and "get rid of his backroom staff".

Hasenhuttl's first-team staff include Richard Kitzbichler, Dave Watson, Kelvin Davis, Craig Fleming, Alek Gross and Andrew Sparkes.

Discussing the idea of adding to that group last month, Hasenhuttl told the Daily Echo: “Sure, we have also spoken about these opportunities we have.

“We are always open minded about going new ways and definitely everything that makes us better, everything that makes us more competitive, we will think about it – this is for sure.

"We have always our eyes open and thinking about what we can change in the future."
