JAMES Fuller admitted Hampshire “didn’t adapt to the conditions” after their four-wicket defeat to Somerset in the T20 Blast.

Somerset moved to the top of the South Group while Hawks remain bottom after two losses from their opening two fixtures.

The home side were bowled out for 123 at the Ageas Bowl as seamer Josh Davey took 3-21, with Fuller's 42 off 28 balls the only innings of note.

Fuller then took 2-23 with the ball, but Tom Lammonby's 33 guided Somerset home on 124-6 with 25 balls to spare.

“We didn’t adapt to the conditions. The pitches have been a bit spicy with the new ball with the ball seaming around,” Fuller said, after the match.

“We lost a few too many too early, we were aiming for 140 today and were about 20 runs short.

"I think we are close and the wicket hasn’t been conducive to type of cricket we wanted to play but that is no excuse," he added.

“We are professional cricketers we can’t have the exact pitch every time. We are losing too many wickets and getting the bowlers in a little too early.

"Essex has been a happy hunting ground for us and hopefully we can get our first win.”

After defeat to Middlesex and Somerset, Hampshire travel to Essex’s County Ground tonight (7:00PM).
