SAINTS Women’s Caitlin Morris has announced her departure from the club after four seasons to pursue “a new challenge”.

The 22-year-old played a key role as Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side won the National League South last season, going on to secure promotion to the Championship for a first time.

Saints fan Morris, who listed centre-back Jose Fonte as her role model growing up, is a product of the Hampshire FA Girls' centre of excellence after being scouted from local side Fawley Falcons at the age of eight.

However, the former Wales youth international defender will now play no part on the pitch for the historic season to come.

Announcing her exit, Morris wrote to supporters and teammates on Twitter: “After a great four seasons as a Southampton FC Women’s player, I’ll be moving on to a new challenge.

“I have had some incredible experiences in the time I’ve been there and am proud of what the group has achieved and to have played a part in this – some amazing memories.

“Thank you to all the amazing fans who have supported through thick and thin, it really does make the difference.”

She continued: “Wish the players, staff & club all the best for their first season in the Championship. One door closes and another opens, looking forward to what comes next.”
