JAN Bednarek wants to leave Saints this summer, according to reports in Poland.

The 26-year-old has been a regular member of the club's starting XI under boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, having first joined the club from Lech Poznan in 2017 for around £5million.

To date, the centre-back has played 150 matches for Saints, scoring seven goals along the way, including four last season.

But Polish outlet Meczyki claim the Poland international is now eyeing up his next challenge, ahead of this winter's World Cup.

They claim Serie A giants Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, have been "closely monitoring" Bednarek, with a fee of around 15million euros touted. Napoli have also recently been linked.

Bednarek signed a new contract with Saints in December 2020, with his deal running until the summer of 2025.

He faces fresh competition for a starting spot at Saints, following the arrival of Armel Bella-Kotchap from VfL Bochum this month.

Saints also still have Mohammed Salisu, Lyanco, Jack Stephens and Yan Valery as centre-back options.
