SAINTS are reportedly the latest side to join the race for Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, following the Clarets’ Premier League relegation last season.

The 26-year-old former Bristol City star arrived at Turf Moor in January 2020 and went on to make 78 Premier League appearances.

Brownhill scored five goals in each of his last three campaigns for the Robins in the Championship, in order to earn his top-flight move.

Despite Burnley’s relegation from the league, Brownhill would come in and offer tenacity, legs and endeavour to the Saints midfield.

90min report that Everton, Leicester, Wolves, Leeds and Brentford are also interested - though no club is yet to approach Burnley with an official offer.

Brownhill achieved more interceptions than any midfield player in the Premier League, and would offer competition alongside captain James Ward-Prowse.

The skipper, 27, has been linked with a number of rival clubs already this summer but is contracted to stay with Saints for a further four years.

Saints are looking to bring in a number six/number eight to reinforce the midfield, with Oriol Romeu turning 31 this year.

Brownhill, a central midfielder, has also operated on the right for former Burnley boss Sean Dyche.
