BOSS Ralph Hasenhuttl admitted Saints are "missing something" in the final third after tonight's 0-0 draw with Klagenfurt.

Following a 3-1 loss against RB Leipzig to open pre-season on Saturday, Saints could not break down the Austrian Bundesliga side in the club's second friendly of the summer.

Saints carved out the better openings, with Adam Armstrong seeing a penalty saved, while both Will Smallbone and Ibrahima Diallo struck the woodwork.

Hasenhuttl shuffled his pack during the contest, replacing all 10 outfield players at half-time.

Reflecting on the stalemate, Hasenhuttl told Saints' website: “We had two different teams in two halves, tried to mix it a little bit from the last game.

“The output is far from enough, which is what means the result (is a draw), because we had two or three big chances where we have to score, and missed a penalty where we have to score.

“It’s a question of how quick you can score the goals, but this is the issue, we don’t score in these moments.

“In some parts I liked what I have seen, but, especially in the final third, like we always say, we are missing something.

“Our problem last year was that when we are coming in these areas, we are not scoring the goals. From these chances we need to take more – we had two shots on the post and bar, but we know this, we know we have to do something there.

He added: "They had one or two good chances, but we definitely had the better chances to score.

"We should win today, this is not what we want."

Saints now head back to England following two games during their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Hasenhuttl's side face Watford, Monaco and Villarreal, before starting their Premier League campaign at Tottenham Hotspur on August 6.

“The games are important for us to see what we are missing and we have used the time quite good, I think," said Hasenhuttl, discussing his side's stay in Austria.

“We need to work on a few things again and we have some strong opponents coming up before we start the Premier League and we are looking forward to it.”
