RALPH Hasenhuttl was economic with his words but confirmed Saints are still in the market for a full-back, and revealed he considers Gavin Bazunu his number one goalkeeper.

The Austrian started with Moussa Djenepo at left-wing-back during the opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, with Tino Livramento injured and Romain Perraud working to fitness.

Perraud suffered a fracture injury towards the end of last season and missed most of pre-season, staying behind at Staplewood with Theo Walcott and Nathan Redmond for the tour to Austria.

Saints had been linked to a number of full-backs across Europe, and Hasenhuttl refused to name any names but responded “yes” when asked if they are still hunting for more cover in this position.

However, one position Saints did sort early in the transfer window was goalkeeper – with Bazunu and Mateusz Lis coming in on the same day as the first two summer additions.

“I think I spoke before the season. We signed him to become the future number one for us,” Hasenhuttl said, asked about Bazunu.

“We have with Alex, a goalkeeper who is proven in the Premier League and was long out with an injury. We wanted to give Gavin with his potential immediately a chance to show up, to play.

“As I said, we have goalkeepers that we both trust that they can play in the Premier League. At the moment Gavin is our number one.”

Hasenhuttl continued: “He's going in the games and I'm sure that he will have a big impact in this club in the future.”

Saints welcome Leeds United to St Mary’s in the first Premier League home match of the season, on Saturday, August 13.
