JAMES Ward-Prowse has been left out of the England squad for their final match before the 2022 World Cup, according to widespread reports.

Various national publications have reported Ward-Prowse, 27, among a number of Three Lions stars who will not have the chance to feature against Germany tonight.

As well as the Saints captain, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori and West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen are said to miss out.

England host Germany in the final game of the Nations League having already suffered relegation from the top division, with the World Cup starting in under two months.

The Qatar tournament kicks off for Gareth Southgate’s side versus Iran on November 21, having reached the semi-final and final of successive tournaments since Russia 2018.

Of the four named players said to miss out on the final squad for the 7:45PM kick-off tonight, all four did not make it off the bench in defeat to Italy on Friday.

England have gone three consecutive internationals without a goal for the first time in 22 years, while pressure has ramped up on manager Southgate ahead of the winter tournament.

Southgate is expected to name his 26-man squad for Qatar 2022 on October 20, which will be well before FIFA's deadline of Sunday, November 13.
