SAINTS teammate Theo Walcott has expressed his “disappointment” for James Ward-Prowse to not feature at all in the final international break ahead of the World Cup.

The 27-year-old’s place on the plane to Qatar hangs in the balance with only two months until the winter tournament kicks off.

Manager Gareth Southgate left 2021-22 Premier League player of the year nominee Ward-Prowse on the bench during the 1-0 Nations League defeat to Italy on Friday.

Today, widespread reports suggest Ward-Prowse is among four players not even included in the matchday squad for the final warm-up clash with Germany at Wembley Stadium.

It makes it appear increasingly unlikely that Ward-Prowse will be part of the group travelling to Qatar, after having been open about his hurt to miss out on the European Championships last year.

“I’m quite disappointed that James Ward-Prowse didn’t get a chance, being a teammate of his,” Walcott said, speaking on talkSPORT.

“He didn’t even feature in the first game and to not feature now as well. That’s the other side of it people don’t see, players will go to a camp, train great but not get the chance to play.

“Ultimately, that’s the goal, you want to play. So it is disappointing for him like many players.”

England have already been relegated from the Nations League Division A and this Germany match (7:45PM) serves only as preparation for the upcoming World Cup.

The Three Lions have gone seven hours without a goal from open play and have not scored in three successive matches for the first time in over two decades.

“I just want to see 4-3-3, all the attacking players, we’re already relegated so for one game against a big team let’s see what this attacking threat can do,” Walcott added.

“We need to try it, we might lose three or four but we might end up winning and get a positive impact going into the games.”
