NATHAN Jones labelled Romeo Lavia a “wonderful talent” as he confirmed the youngster was withdrawn through cramp at Liverpool.

The 18-year-old starlet returned for his first start since scoring in a 2-1 win over Chelsea in August, where he was substituted with a muscle injury.

The Reds ran out 3-1 winners with all four goals scored before the break, before Lavia limped off the field with Joe Aribo on in his place in the final 15 minutes.

"It was just cramp. We've got to realise he's only 18 years old," Jones told the Daily Echo, speaking after his first match as a Premier League manager.

"And to come and play how he did at Anfield with that freedom, shows he's a wonderful talent. "He'll get better because we have to work with him.

“In possession he is wonderful but out of possession we need to work with him and he needs to get better. Once he does that, he'll be some talent,” he added.

Jones added an update on another recent injury returnee, Armel Bella-Kotchap, who Lyanco replaced.

“He has come back after a shoulder problem and lacks match fitness. All these guys need guidance, help and work. When they get that, they'll be better for it,” Jones said.
