MOHAMMED Salisu has been called up to the Ghana squad for the upcoming World Cup and joins Armel Bella-Kotchap in Qatar.

The 23-year-old defender only made his debut for the country in September and is yet to concede a goal across 135 minutes of action.

Salisu has previously rejected call-ups to the Black Stars, instead preferring to focus on his club form with Saints following a move from Spain’s La Liga.

Ghana have three tough opponents to progress past, facing Portugal in their opening game on Thursday, November 24.

They then play Korea Republic on Monday, November 28, before a repeat of a 2010 World Cup clash and grudge match with Uruguay on Friday, December 2.

Before that, Salisu could feature with Ghana when they take on Switzerland in a friendly match this week – taking place on Thursday, November 17.

Ghana reached the World Cup after topping their qualification group with South Africa, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe.

Salisu and Bella-Kotchap could turn from teammates to opposition with both Ghana and Germany on the same side of the tournament tree.

Salisu has missed only one match at Premier League level so far this season – sitting out of the 2-1 defeat at home to Everton following his last international involvement.
