MOHAMMED Salisu scored his first goal for international team Ghana in their warm-up victory over Switzerland ahead of the World Cup.

The Black Stars face Portugal, Uruguay and Korea Republic in Qatar this month with the Saints defender likely to be at the core of their backline.

Salisu made only his third appearance for the country on Thursday, scoring the opener with a header with just 20 minutes remaining, in a 2-0 win. Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo netted the second soon after.

Meanwhile, Salisu’s defensive partner at St Mary’s, Armel Bella-Kotchap, played around 60 minutes for Germany in his second appearance for the nation on Wednesday.

Lukas Klostermann’s first-half injury meant the 20-year-old was called upon in their pre-World Cup match, resulting in a 1-0 win over Oman.

Germany’s World Cup begins with a match versus Japan on Wednesday, November 23.

Stuart Armstrong was the other Saint involved in international friendlies this week, as Scotland suffered a 2-1 defeat to Turkey.

Armstrong played 67 minutes, while teammate Che Adams was not involved after withdrawing from the squad to rest following becoming a new father.
