SAINTS are reportedly among a host of Premier League clubs considering a move for Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres – but the Swedish international could be offered a new contract.

The 24-year-old has scored nine in 19 Championship matches so far this season to put top-flight clubs on alert, after bagging 17 last campaign.

Gyokeres was on the books at Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion between January 2018 and summer 2021, experiencing several loans across Europe and England.

However, his best form has come since the £1million move to Coventry City, while Saints have shopped in the Championship for forwards in recent years.

Che Adams was signed from Birmingham City, while Adam Armstrong – who has scored just three goals for Saints since joining last summer – was acquired from Blackburn Rovers.

Football League World report that Saints are joined by West Ham, Crystal Palace and Everton in their interest in the international, who has 11 caps and two goals to his name.

However, the report details that Coventry could give Gyokeres – whose current deal expires in summer 2024 – a new long-term deal to fend off any interest.

The report adds that the new contract offer from his current club will include a substantial pay rise.

Coventry currently sit just two points outside the playoffs under manager Mark Robins, with the season currently paused for the World Cup and recommencing on Saturday, December 10.
