SAINTS have confirmed they will be heading out to Spain for a mid-season training camp, ahead of the resumption of the 2022-23 season.

Nathan Jones’s side will depart for the southern coast of Andalucia for a week-long camp on Monday.

They will return on Sunday, December 11, before resuming their season with a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Lincoln at St Mary’s on December 21.

Jones has only taken charge of one game for his new club since replacing Ralph Hasenhuttl last month – suffering a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.

Speaking at his first press conference as Saints boss before the break, the former Luton man insisted the work done with the players during the pause in games for the World Cup would be crucial.

Jones said: The real bonus is that we have four to six weeks without games, well not without games but without the pressure, the distraction of games. I can do real, real work with the team and then hopefully put an imprint on how we move forward.

“It’s not going to be revolutionary in a week or two, it’s going to be trying to get our work, our philosophy and our structure over really quickly and a good buy-in from the players a real discipline from then and we can start to build.”

Saints are currently 19th in the top flight with just 12 points coming from their opening 15 league games.

Their next league encounter comes against Brighton at St Mary’s on Boxing Day.
