SAINTS defender Mohammed Salisu and his Ghana side suffered World Cup heartbreak in defeat to Uruguay, and have not progressed to the round of 16.
The Black Stars needed a victory over their World Cup rivals in a chance to get ‘revenge’ for their 2010 World Cup quarter-final elimination at the hand of Luis Suarez.
However, after Andre Ayew missed a first-half penalty, they eventually went down 2-0. Uruguay were also denied progression due to South Korea’s 2-1 win over Portugal.
Ghana’s defeat means Salisu will head home from Qatar but at least with a goal to his name, after scoring last time out versus South Korea.
He and Armel Bella-Kotchap – the only two Saints representatives – both exit at the group stage and will link back up with Nathan Jones’s squad after a short break.
Whether the pair will rejoin with the group ahead of their training camp in Spain, which begins on Monday, December 5, is as of yet unclear.
