COULD a pacey player brimming with attacking ability be new Saints manager Nathan Jones's first signing?

Parma left-back Jayden Oosterwolde is said to be attracting attention from the new Saints boss, keen to bolster his squad during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old has now confirmed he is keen to play in the Premier League, where Southampton are currently bottom of the table.

The Dutchman made his name in the Eredivisie with FC Twente, switching to Italian Serie B side Parma for £2.5 million a year ago.

He has impressed for them and Forza Parma report Oosterwolde is a target for Saints along with Bundesliga outfit Augsburg.

Now Oosterwolde has spoken to Dutch website Voetbal Zone.

He said: "There is a lot of interest around me. But let’s stop here. I’ll see what the next transfer window brings. For now, I’m focusing on the club. But if the right club arrives, we’ll definitely think about it.

"Where do I see myself in five years? I want to play in the Premier League. As a kid, I always watched English football. It’s simply the best league in the world."

Romain Perraud is currently the number one choice for Saints at left-back. England international Kyle Walker-Peters has filled in on the left on occasion.

Other than talented teenager Juan Larios, back-up in that position is scarce. But Nathan Jones could choose to prioritise attacking additions to the squad with just 15 goals in 17 games.

Saints confirmed the appointment of Luton Town boss and Championship Manager of the Year Nathan Jones as their new first-team manager on November 10, following the departure of Ralph Hasenhuttl after almost four years.

Jones was there to witness Saints’ Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory over Sheffield Wednesday the night before and took over ahead of a defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Following the extended World Cup break, he has overseen a League Cup win over Lincoln City and Premier League defeats to Brighton and Fulham.

Saints take on promoted side Nottingham Forest, who lie two places above them in the table with just two points separating them.
