NATHAN Jones admitted his “work is done” ahead of a unique January transfer deadline day but conceded he could get “the odd phone call” on the St James’s Park touchline.

Saints travel to Newcastle United for the EFL Cup semi-final with the clash scheduled for the final day of the winter transfer window, with all business in England ceasing at 11PM.

The second leg meeting, which currently has the Magpies leading by one goal after the first leg, will kick-off at 8PM and could go late into the night if penalties are needed.

Saints are in the market for another addition or two and it could make it a particularly busy day, but Jones is adamant about where his focus lies with Sport Republic's Rasmus Ankersen leading on recruitment.

“It will be unique but my focus will be solely on the game, and pretty much all of my work is done on that (transfers) now,” Jones told the Daily Echo.

“It’s to other people now and if that fits in with what we want to do we’ll do it, if not we’ll move on. My focus Tuesday will be solely on Newcastle, I might have the odd phone call but we hope the majority of our business will be done by then.”

The Welshman added: “It is a crazy window, people don’t want to lose players halfway through a season so it is a totally different window from the summer.

“It is crazy and that’s brilliant for Sky and things like that, everyone tends to go mental, decisions get made and the number of deals that can get done at 11:05PM seems crazy to me considering you’ve got a month to do it, but that’s just the way it is.”

Saints have already made three signings with Mislav Orsic, Charly Alcaraz and James Bree adding to the 10 summer acquisitions Sport Republic had made.
