SAINTS have reportedly had a bid accepted for former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele within the last 24 hours.

Nathan Jones is hoping the St Mary’s side, with their recruitment currently being led by Sport Republic’s Rasmus Ankersen, can land attacking reinforcements.

The manager has been open to admitting it could come by way of powerful winger or clinical number nine, ahead of Tuesday’s 11PM deadline.

Football Scotland have reported that Saints have had a £3million bid accepted for Lyons striker Dembele, who is out of contract in the summer.

The 26-year-old Frenchman, who scored 51 goals in 94 for Celtic, has not netted in the French first division since August and was resigned to a summer exit.

Multiple reports have since emerged stating Saints’ interest in Dembele with differing fees of up to £8million mentioned.

The former French youth international has been prolific in nearly all spells of his career, scoring 15 in 43 in a breakout Championship season at Fulham 2015-16.

Dembele bagged 21 in 30 Ligue 1 games last season and has a trophy cabinet including a Spanish title and three Scottish league championships.

With just over 24 hours left until the window slams shut, and a cup semi-final in between, the story is likely to develop quickly.
