SOUTHAMPTON’S hunt for a striker has gone into the final day of the window and it is not the situation that all parties would have ideally wanted.

But the St Mary’s are shopping ambitiously in a market that likely requires a player accepting Saints could be their best move available ahead of the deadline before deciding.

Transfer deadline day is among us and the glaring need for additional forward firepower is yet to have been successfully addressed.

However, there are four main names touted as potential additions with Rasmus Ankersen working against the clock to provide manager Nathan Jones with what he desires.

Here is the four and what we know about them while accepting that it is deadline day – something can and likely will come out of nowhere…

Kamaldeen Sulemana - The pacey Stade Rennes winger is an ongoing saga over the last week with latest reports suggesting both Saints and Everton are in the for the Ghanaian international.

Fees of around £22million have been mooted and it could be down to the player, who featured at the World Cup last year, to make a decision on where he ends up.

Sulemana is a direct creator and would add to the options Jones has as his outside forwards, playing anywhere across the frontline and adding depth to the likes of Samuel Edozie.

Moussa Demebele - News broke that Saints had agreed a fee south of £7million for the former Celtic striker, who is an out-and-out number nine with goalscoring experience in multiple leagues.

However, it seems as though this one is a non-starter with a difficult contract situation to negotiate. His current deal expires in the summer and he could get a large signing-on fee if he moves as a free agent in the summer. Our view is this one is unlikely to progress further.

Vitinha - A 22-year-old striker from Portugal's SC Braga with goalscoring in all competitions he's competed in this season, a move for Vitinha would finally break Saints' transfer record.

Reports have suggested Rasmus Ankersen has met his release clause at up to £27million. Brighton & Hove Albion have been stated as interested in hijacking a deal and this could go either way today, but he is a main target for the club.

The under-21 international, Vitinha , has 13 goals in 27 appearances this season across the Portuguese league, Europa League and two cup competitions.

Paul Onuachu - This is the deal we know least about but the Nigerian striker fits the profile Nathan Jones wants perhaps more than every other option.

Saints have reportedly had bids for the six-foot six-inch 28-year-old rejected by Genk, with negotiations ongoing. The player has worked with Ankersen before and we think this is one to watch.

The two-time Danish champion with FC Midtjylland has scored 85 goals in 134 appearances for his current side – including 16 and 19 in the league this season – and is deserving of a chance in one of Europe’s major leagues.
