PREMIER League legend Ian Wright told Saints manager Nathan Jones “don’t start throwing people under the bus” after comments the boss made following defeat at Brentford.

Saints were beaten 3-0 by the Bees in West London on Saturday, in a match in which Jones faced humiliating chants from both sets of supporters.

The result ensured Saints remained bottom of the Premier League, with one win and six defeats in seven league matches since Jones was appointed.

An interesting media round followed and the Welshman admitted ‘compromising’ on his principles and, in an interview with BBC Sport, ‘pandering’ to others’ views.

However, former Arsenal man, Wright, was less than pleased with his comments. The retired forward gave his verdict on BBC’s Match of the Day.

He said: “They were strange comments, they were strange. It’s your job to do your job, what are you talking about ‘pandering’ to people?

“This is the Premier League and you’re not going to get many opportunities here, so don’t come and start throwing people under the bus saying it’s their fault you didn’t do what you’ve done before.

“Get it done.”

Saints are back in action next Saturday, when they host relegation rivals Wolves. All of Wolves, Everton and Leicester won this weekend’s games to see Saints three points adrift of safety.
