SAINTS interim boss Ruben Selles revealed how his team playing versus new signings Kamaldeen Sulemana and Paul Onuachu in Denmark has given him an “advantage”.

The duo have become immediate starters since signing at St Mary’s on deadline day last month but still hunt their first goals in Saints colours.

Kamladeen and Onuachu came off the bench for the second half of the 3-0 defeat at Brentford under Nathan Jones after just hours in the country.

They have started since and impressed versus both Wolves – in Jones’s final match – and the 1-0 victory at Chelsea last time out, with Selles keeping the same attack.

The Spaniard faced them as an assistant at Copenhagen, with Kamaldeen playing for Nordsjaelland until 2021 and Onuachu running out with FC Midtjylland from 2015-2019.

“With Kamaldeen and Paul, I have an advantage,” Selles insisted. “Paul played against my team in Denmark and Kamaldeen also scored against me a couple of times.

“It was an easy conversation to have with them about what we expect from them."

He continued: "With Nathan, in terms of being the person to have picked them up, I think they are incredible players that can make an impact in the Premier League. Just as much as Carlos (Alcaraz) or James (Bree) coming from Luton or Misalv (Orsic).

“It’s not been difficult. It’s been more task-related, telling them what we need from them and where we see them now and possibly in the future.”

Kamaldeen and Onuachu are likely to retain their starting berths for the trip to Leeds United’s Elland Road on Saturday, with Che Adams potentially still absent through injury.

Saints have scored just 19 goals in 23 Premier League games this campaign, with captain and midfield James Ward-Prowse claiming a club-high six of those.
