LEADING Saints goalscorer Che Adams says that he hasn’t given his long-term future any thought as he enters the final 18 months of his current St Mary's contract.

Joining the club from Birmingham City in 2019, Adams signed a five-year deal, now set to expire next summer. But the forward insists that he is only focused on the current predicament his team finds themselves in.

"I've not actually, I didn't know that," Adams said, when asked about his contract situation and whether he’s given thought to the prospect of entering the final 12 months of his deal this summer.

"I am happy to stay here. I have loved every single minute down here. I have got a nice home and we are really settled down here, so we will see what happens.

"That's not in my mind at the moment. I'm just thinking about staying in the Premier League and I know we are going to do that, because the quality we have and the belief now going into the rest of the season, everyone is really happy here."

Adams has notched nine goals in all competitions for Saints this season - the most of any player at the club - but his campaign has been underlined by a raft of big missed opportunities as well.

"Yes, definitely,” the Scottish international responded when asked if the current season was the most difficult he’s faced since his St Mary’s arrival.

“In terms of matches and not winning as many games as we would have liked, but probably in my career actually, it is up there.

"The Premier League is the highest league in the world and to not compete as you would want to this year, it is difficult. But we just have to bring each other up and be as positive as we can towards the end of the season.

"We don’t really care or mind how we get the three points, it’s just getting them now – they’re going to be so valuable towards the end of the season. Everyone is ready and willing to dig in to the end of the season, so that’s the most important thing.

"We have a big squad with a lot of games coming up so everyone can add their style on things. Everyone has to be positive I think, it’s so easy to be negative but everyone is willing to work hard so that’s a bonus."

Adams faced a spell on the sidelines recently out of favour following the signing of Paul Onuachi in January - and then with a calf problem - but he now looks to have regained his starting role under Ruben Selles.
