ABSENT for the last two Premier League matches, Mohammed Salisu has been left out of Ruben Selles’s recent Saints squads due to ‘doubts over his commitment, according to a report in The Athletic.

Salisu missed Ghana’s two matches in the recent international break with what Black Stars boss Chris Hughton called ‘injuries at his club.’

But since returning to the South Coast, Salisu has remained uninvolved for Saints’ defeats to West Ham and Manchester City.

Now, The Athletic have reported that his continued absence is due to concerns over his attitude.

With just over 12 months left on his deal and a reported desire to halt any contract negotiations until the end of the season, Salisu's time at St Mary's could be coming to an end. It remains to be seen what part he will play in the conclusion of Saints’ season.

The 23-year-old has started 21 times in the league this season but has seen opportunities dwindle since Selles took over from Nathan Jones.

With a preference for Jan Bednarek and Armel Bella-Kotchap at the heart of his defence, Salisu has played just once under the new boss, starting zero times. That follows a run of 14 consecutive starts.

Saints have eight games to save their Premier League status as they prepare to host Crystal Palace this weekend.
