JOIN Daily Echo Saints reporter Benjy Nurick as he looks back and assesses Southampton's 4-3 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The defeat made it ten straight Premier League games without a win and it leaves Saints eight points adrift of safety with three games left to play. Failure to beat Fulham next weekend would see Saints officially relegated to the Championship, ending their 11-season stay in the top flight.

Saints started the contest at the City Ground on the front foot but found themselves 2-0 down after 21 minutes as sloppy defending allowed Taiwo Awoniyi to strike twice in quick succession.

From that point they battled through a back-and-forth encounter but never got level again, making it 2-1, 3-2, and finally 4-3 deep into stoppage time.

The defeat marked Saints' 23rd of the season and their 12th loss by a single goal.

So what has gone wrong? Where do Saints go from here? What are the steps needed to rebuild in the Championship and go back up?

All that and more is discussed in the video below.
