SAINTS have been officially relegated from the Premier League marking the end of an 11-year stay in the top division of English football.

The St Mary’s side had their fate sealed with the 0-2 defeat to Fulham on Saturday – their first home loss to the Cottagers in the league since 1935.

Saints began the season with long-term manager Ralph Hasenhuttl but he was sacked by November and replaced by Luton Town boss Nathan Jones.

The Welshman, with the side already bottom of the Premier League, was defeated in seven of his eight league matches – before assistant Ruben Selles took on the main job in February.

Following promotion from the Championship under former manager Nigel Adkins in 2012, Saints have competed in 416 Premier League games.

They picked up a total of 130 wins in that time, with Danny Ings’s 22 goals during the 2019-20 campaign the highest total achieved by a Saints player in a single Premier League season.

Two more fixtures remain this campaign with a visit to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, 21 May, before Liverpool head to St Mary’s for the final day of the season seven days later.

Championship fixtures are set to be released at around 9am on Thursday, June 22. It will be the club’s 40th season spent at level 2 of the English football system.
