SAINTS manager Ruben Selles hinted that an academy trio could feature in the Premier League this weekend at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The St Mary’s side are already relegated to the Championship with matches versus Brighton and Liverpool still to play.

Saints B won the Premier League 2 Division Two title this season while Dom Ballard, Kami Doyle and Sam Amo-Ameyaw also starred at under-18s in the FA Youth Cup semi-final fun.

The three youngsters have been training with the Saints first team this week and Selles made the suggestion they could feature at Amex Stadium on Sunday.

With nothing to play for in the league, Selles was asked if he will play a rotated team that features primarily those with a future at the club beyond the summer.

“It’s going to be a little bit of everything,” he responded. “I will have on the pitch a team that I think can beat Brighton, also some of the things that the team needs to move forward and make the next step.

“Potentially yes, they (the young players) have been training with us for the past three weeks and they have been in our training for the whole season,” Selles added.
“As you know it was not easy to have them because it was a big squad, but some of them came with us a lot of times.

“Dom made his debut this season and during the week Dom Ballard, Kami and Sam Amo have been training with us and potentially they will be involved in the game.”

Ballard, Lewis Payne and Diamond Edwards all made their debuts for the club back in August under Ralph Hasenhuttl, in an EFL Cup victory at Cambridge United.

However, only Ballard has played any minutes at all since – in the FA Cup versus Grimsby Town – after the first-team squad size inflated to over 30 players in the January window.
