SAINTS defender Dynel Simeu has announced he has ruptured his Achilles after picking up an injury in Premier League 2 last week.

The 21 year old centre-back needed help off the pitch after he was substituted during the under-21 side’s 4-2 victory over Aston Villa at Snows Stadium.

Southampton-local Simeu, who signed from Chelsea on a free transfer two seasons ago, was looking at an integral season in his development.

Simeu spent last season on loan at League Two Tranmere Rovers and League One Morecambe but will now face an extended spell in the medical room.

On his social media, Simeu revealed: “Unfortunately, this is not the way I would have liked to start the season.

“I’m gutted to say I'll be on the sidelines for a while. After a scan and some professional advice, it's been revealed that I have ruptured my Achilles.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank my club, friends, and family who have been supportive in this difficult time. I will come back a stronger and better player.”

Simeu is yet to make his senior debut for Saints, having been named on the bench in the Premier League and EFL Cup under former manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
