SAINTS boss Russell Martin has added further reinforcements to his squad this week with the additions of Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Ross Stewart.

The latter arrives on a permanent deal from Sunderland - who Southampton face in a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

Saints head to the Stadium of Light having gone unbeaten so far in the Championship this season, earning 10 points from their first four games.

Here is how we think they will line up as they look to continue their fine start to the league season with a win against the Blackcats.

Goalkeeper

Daily Echo:

Despite still waiting for his first clean sheet of the season, Gavin Bazunu should keep his number one spot as Saints travel to Sunderland.

Manager Martin admitted he was annoyed for the Irish international after Southampton conceded against QPR last weekend.

Defenders

With Jack Stephen’s injury and Lyanco’s loan departure, Mason Holgate is in pole position to partner Jan Bednarek to protect Bazunu’s goal.

Southampton have pulled off a masterstroke in keeping Kyle Walker-Peters during the summer window and we will start at right back. Ryan Manning should continue on the left.

Midfielders

Having made his debut against QPR, Flynn Downes could be in line for his first start against Sunderland.

Will Smallbone has returned to training this week, but Martin was coy about how close the Irish international is to being in starting contention.

With that in mind, we predict that Stuart Armstrong and Charly Alcaraz will partner Downes in midfield.

Shea Charles could also start after shining every time he has played this season.

Forwards

Sam Edozie did limp off against QPR last weekend but confirmed that it was only a minor issue after the game and should start again after scoring his first senior goal.

Current top goalscorer Adam Armstrong should also retain his starting spot, but whether he stars through the middle or out wide is dependent on Che Adams.

Martin did confirm that the Scottish international would travel to Sunderland if he remains at Southampton, however, it may come down to how he feels after a deadline day full of speculation.

Martin has also been firm in his praise of Adams’ character - so we think he will start against the Black Cats.

Full predicted team:

Bazunu; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Holgate, Manning; Downes, S Armstrong, Alcaraz; A Armstrong, Edozie, Adams.
