EASTLEIGH suffered a humiliating defeat, as they were hammered 6-0 at home to Gateshead in the National League.

Greg Olley opened the scoring with a clever finish and then Marcus Dinanga added a second.

An outstanding team move ended with Jordan Hunter making it three, before Dinanga added a fourth just prior to the interval.

The impressive Stephen Wearne then curled home in the 66th minute and substitute Billy Chadwick cooly added a sixth - on a tough afternoon for interim boss Richard Hill.

Eastleigh made two changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Dorking Wanderers as Charlie Carter and Paul McCallum came into the team - Aidan Barlow and Lee Hodson made way.

Gateshead went close early-on when Stephen Wearne cut inside before his shot crashed against the post.

It looked to be only a matter of time before the visitors broke the deadlock - and on 17 minutes, they were in front.

Greg Olley had plenty of time in the box and his poked effort found the bottom left corner.

Within minutes, Dinanga was released behind the Eastleigh backline and he rounded McDonnell and slotted the ball into the empty net to make it two-nil.

It was Wearne again who was proving to be a problem, his curled effort bounced off the post and trickled along the goal-line without going over.

It had become ugly for the hosts and five minutes before the break, a wonderful move resulted in Wearne finding Jordan Hunter, who smashed the ball into the corner.

There was still time in the first half for Gateshead to add a fourth.

Dinanga was played through again and he struck the ball past McDonnell, before wheeling away in celebration.

Boo's rung out around the Silverlake Stadium as soon as the half-time whistle was sounded.

Any hopes of an improbable comeback were dashed on 65 minutes, when Regan Booty found Wearne, who curled the ball brilliantly into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.

There was still time for even more pain for the Spitfires.

Billy Chadwick, who had only just been substituted on for the Tinesiders, was found by another excellent pass and he calmly placed the ball beyond McDonnell.
