EVERY word Saints manager Russell Martin said ahead of Rotherham's visit to St Mary's on Saturday...

Everyone has been in a good mood after Tuesday night, what has been the emphasis this week?

The emphasis has been the same really. Learn as much as we can from Tuesday, recover as best we can and then work out how to implement our game plan tomorrow.

It’s always the same – it was the same when we lost four games in a row and now that we have won two in a row, nothing has changed.

The boys are in good spirits because winning games is the best feeling as a football player. We are in a good place and pretty much everyone has been used in the last couple of games.

It shows them that anyone can be used at any point and you can go from not being involved to starting, so we are in a good place with a nice atmosphere.

We have to be really careful, though. We have one more game to finish off and turn it into a really brilliant week for us.

So much can change in football in seven days. We have got the guys physically as ready as we can, emotionally and mentally the same, and a bit more work to do on that before it’s over to them.

Gone from four defeats to two wins, now the expectation externally will be to beat Rotherham?

It’s the worst trap you can fall into. It’s not changed here internally, it’s been the same process. We have behaved in the same way and worked extremely hard.

Whatever goes on outside, you have to guard against it and put into context for the players as well. Although the expectation will increase tomorrow, we’re playing a team fighting for everything.

They will be disappointed after their setback having fought so hard to get back into the Bristol City game, and there is never an easy game in the Championship – never.

Regardless of league position or form, we showed last week against Leeds that it can change – we were having a tough moment and they were off the back of four clean sheets.

You put it into context emotionally for the boys, what is the most important part of the game? If you don’t connect that, the tactics count for very little.

Rotherham will come here fighting for everything and making it hard for us, with probably little expectation outside of their camp and that can relieve them of pressure.

It’s a dangerous game for us if we don’t approach it in the right way and I feel like we have, but we have to do it the right way on the pitch tomorrow.

That includes making sure we can create our own energy and atmosphere and giving our fans something to shout about early in the game.

What do you make of Rotherham as an opponent?

They are a team littered with experience in the league, some really good players and Matt (Taylor) has done a really good job keeping them in the league.

They’ve been really unlucky to not win more games so we are aware of the threat that they pose. Although it is always about us, we have to be aware of the threat they pose.

I’m pretty sure that the only way they will get out of their situation will bee fighting and we have to be ready for that tomorrow.

We took a lot of fight out of the game against Stoke by controlling it, showing real composure but real aggression as well.

We have to build on the two wins or we will go into the international break a little bit frustrated.

How important has the clean sheet been for the players?

We defended really well in the last few games but it has come off the back of looking after the ball better.

We have had to defend less, there have been less moments in transition and it all comes hand in hand. If you give up one to get the other, it’s hard to get the other back – if that makes sense.

We have been trying to find the balance and have found it much better in the last few games. We’ve looked after the ball better which means we have to defend less.

Then, when we have to defend, the willingness to get into shape, to cover and also to press for each other has been outstanding.
