GOALSCORER Ryan Fraser thanked Saints fans for their support after scoring a 95th-minute winner to secure a 2-1 victory at Hull City on Saturday.

Some Southampton supporters were unable to attend the game due to chaos at King’s Cross Station, caused by Storm Babet.

Fraser, who replaced Stuart Armstrong on 84 minutes, secured the late win with his first Southampton goal - crashing a volley past Ryan Allsop to send the fans into a frenzy.

Speaking to the Daily Echo after the game, the 29 year old was quick to thank the fans for their role in the win and for making the difficult trip to Hull.

He said: "The late winner definitely is a sign of the fight in this team and the way the manager has us believing in ourselves.

"The fans make us believe in ourselves. For them to travel all this way in that weather, the lads appreciate it, everyone at the club appreciates it. That doesn’t go unnoticed.

"When you do it for them as well it makes you feel so much better. Scoring a 95th-minute winner in front of those fans today is probably one of the better feelings I’ve had in my career, to be honest."

Southampton have now won four times on the road this season - three of those courtesy of late goals.

While Fraser admitted he enjoys the feeling of late winners, he conceded he would prefer to win games in a comfortable manner.

“If you ask me if I’d rather have a late winner or a convincing win, I’d rather have the late winner in a way because it gives the fans an extra sense of delight,” he beamed.

“The lads can go over to the fans and we can celebrate together. Don’t get me wrong, for 99 per cent of the season I’d like to win games 5-0, but that just doesn’t happen in football.

"This is a great confidence boost for all of the lads, we are on a four-game unbeaten run now.

"Rotherham wasn’t the result that we wanted, but you have to look at it as a point and move on from it. You learn from those and we are still unbeaten.”
