FOUR Saints Women's players were involved as England's Under-23s beat Portugal 2-0  at Manchester City Women’s Joie Stadium on Monday night.

Goalkeeper Kayla Rendell and defender Ella Morris both started the game and helped keep a clean sheet.

Rendell made a series of fine saves throughout the match to prevent the visitors from scoring, while Morris had a shot deflected out for a corner during the second half.

Midfielders Molly Pike and Lucia Kendall came on for the final five minutes to help ensure the victory for the young Lionesses.

Second half goals by Tottenham Hotspur's Jessica Naz and Charlton Athletic's Kiera Skeels were the difference between the sides.

It has been a positive international break for the England side, who also drew 1-1 with Italy under-23's last Thursday.

Rendell, Morris, Pike and Kendall will all now return to the south coast ahead of an important stage of the season.

Saints FC Women face Sheffield United at St Mary's on Sunday in the Championship as they hope to reclaim top spot in the league.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale's side also have the challenge of league meetings against promotion contenders Charlton and Crystal Palace before the end of November.
