SUBSTITUTE Samuel Edozie earned a point for Saints to stretch their unbeaten run to 13 games in the 1-1 draw with Coventry City.

Hadji Wright had put the hosts in front after Ryan Manning's mistake but Edozie's half-volley seven minutes after coming on, pegged the Sky Blues back.

With Leicester City and Ipswich Town both winning over the last couple of nights, Saints have lost ground on the top two despite picking up results.

Here are the player ratings from tonight's game...

Gavin Bazunu - 7.

Made a good save to prevent Simms from opening the scoring. Not a lot he could do with Wright’s goal. Also made a crucial stop in added time. Was good on the ball as you would expect.

Kyle Walker-Peters - 6.

His burst forward almost set up the opening goal after seven minutes. Shown a yellow card in the first half for kicking the ball away. Played against a tricky customer in Wright.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis - 6.

Composed on the ball and rarely looked flustered, bar one or two moments in the first half. Looked the best out of all the Southampton defenders.

Jan Bednarek - 6.

Not his best night as he was caught out a couple of times in the first half by Simms’ clever movement. Booked for a cynical foul on the forward.

Ryan Manning - 5.

Started the game well but he made the crucial mistake for Coventry City’s goal. Lost the ball poorly at start of second half to Callum O’Hare who found Wright to score. Had a bit of a wild shot when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box after 23 minutes.

Will Smallbone - 6.

Made a last-ditch tackle on O’Hare which the referee waved away. Was tidy with the ball but Saints missed his penetrating late runs into the box which he was not able to do due to his deeper role. Substituted late in proceedings.

Shea Charles - 6.

Had the ball in the net after 10 minutes but the goal was ruled out due to an earlier foul. Worked hard and kept things simple with his passing but was not able to have a major impact. Substituted after 59 minutes.

Stuart Armstrong - 7.

Showed glimpses of his quality throughout. He’s one of Saints’ most reliable players and did not go hiding. Had a good low effort saved in the second half. Looked more dangerous as the game went on.

Joe Aribo - 6.

Pressed well and won the ball back at times, but did not offer a lot in attacking areas. Was sloppy on the ball at certain points. Curled an effort over the bar soon after Saints equalised. Was shown a yellow card in the dying minutes.

Adam Armstrong - 6.

He always looks a threat and his movement caused Coventry problems. Knocked on for the Saints goal. Will be disappointed not to have added to his 12 Championship goals with his finishing wayward on a couple of occasions around the box. Substituted late in the game.

Che Adams - 5.

Dropped off well to play a clever pass through to Adam Armstrong midway through the first half which almost led to a goal. Did not offer much else. Substituted on 59 minutes. Will be disappointed.

Substitutes

Samuel Edozie - 8.

Equalised with an excellent half-volley soon after coming on the pitch and offered real dynamism on the right-hand side. Performances like this will give him every chance to gain a starting berth in the coming matches.

Ryan Fraser - 8.

Put in a great cross from the left which Edozie scored from. Another of his dangerous crosses almost resulted in a second goal but Bobby Thomas diverted the ball behind. Has really shown himself to be an impressive weapon from the substitutes bench.

Sekou Mara - N/A.

Was brought on for added time. Not able to get into the game too much.

Charly Alcaraz - N/A.

Came on for the final minutes and it was too late to make much of an impact.
