Below is a full transcript of Saints manager Russell Martin as he spoke ahead of the visit from Sheffield Wednesday to St Mary's:

The incentives are enough to win without history but is it nice to be on the verge of the best run in over a century?

RM: I don't think we have spoken consciously about it because we focus on every game as the next most important game.

We try really hard to be the team we want to be so the incentive for us is to keep producing and that to hunt down the teams in front of us.

We are in a position to fight and be that close now and it's been an immense effort, it's been really difficult and there have been some difficult moments.

If we can carry on doing that and it means we make some history together then amazing. We probably spoke about it once when it was talked about.

It has not been a focus for us but if we do it then it will be because the players deserved it. I am really proud of them and they deserve every credit they get.

We are really grateful to work with them, I love watching them play and if we can achieve something like that together it will be great.

We face an opposition that are in a really good place with a new manager. They have build some momentum and a lot of belief in what they are doing.

It will be a different challenge to what we have faced recently. The incentive for us stays the same but to add that to it as well is an exciting challenge.

You must be impressed with Danny Rohl, only 34 years old - he has done a great job?

RM: He has got great pedigree so I don't think age comes into it. He has been coaching at a really high level for a long period.

He has been with the German national team and here obviously, working in a very particular way. It is very different to us but they are good at it.

He is a really good coach but the focus is on us and how we can be the team we want to be. I am pretty sure they will come and do exactly what they have been doing.

They will try and do it even better against us. He will probably feel like it's a game that can be good for them but I think it could be a game good for us.

It will be down to whoever is best on the day and whoever has the most conviction in what they do. It's up to us to make sure.

We are guessing and you always have to make an educated guess as a coach, but if they come with their game plan we have to make sure we are ready.

It might be different to what we expect but the lads are prepared. They are a good team and have good players.

At the start of the season, they made a change and it didn't quite go right but they have made a change again and it has positively changed the feeling.

It will be an interesting challenge, I have enjoyed watching them play so it's up to us to carry out the game plan when we step over the white line.

How important is this month on the training ground ahead of a busy February?

RM: It gives us a chance to nail down some stuff that we feel like we have been desperate to work on and focus on.

It is not done in one week but we have focused on some key areas and the way the players have attacked it has been nice.

We have done a review of that run of games because it has been hectic and we have taken out some bits we think will help us tomorrow and generally as a team.

We have enjoyed it, I love having time on the training pitch and I think some players like the games coming thick and fast.

I love working with the players, it's the best bit being out on the grass and the amount of games we have had has limited how much we can do that.

It's a real luxury because we won't have much time after this month before the end of the season, so we will try to utilise it as best we can.

We will be really demanding of them and make them understand why we are doing what we are doing so hopefully the rest will take care of itself.

How is the progress of the injured players and have their timeframes changed?

RM: I don't think any timeframes have changed. Sam Edozie is coming along nicely so will hopefully be at the lower end of the scale.

We're still looking towards the end of the month for him and James Bree and Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Not much has changed in terms of that. Ross (Stewart) is Ross and we know his situation. Other than that, everything is okay.

Bree is the same as Edozie and is coming along nicely. They have both pushing themselves very hard but will not be back for the next couple of games.

Does the January window and reports that come with it create things in the dressing room?

RM: No, not really. We are in a really different place to where we were in the summer.

We have lots of conversations with the players anyway and I think they are used to it now, on the whole.

They understand that and there has been some amazing conversations with players behind closed doors and they know they can trust us.

But not about the January window or about a player's situation. It's always about different things, when they are in the team or are not - or when we notice something.

Sometimes, it is just to chat. It is easy to not have a conversation with players about something other than football but we spend a lot of time doing that.

There has not been any conversation about wanting to leave, there is no longer a queue outside the door of players wanting to leave.

Most of those players left and now we have a group that believes in what they are doing and have the hunger and humility to keep going.

It has not unsettled the squad one bit and hopefully, it stays the same. Maybe it changes when we get later into the window, I don't know.

I really feel that they won't let it affect them or get in the way as they, in a selfish industry, are really selfless in working for each other.
