EASTLEIGH's Chris Maguire insisted the Spitfires still have a job to do against Newport County but the prospect of facing Manchester United in the FA Cup is "really special".

The forward's penalty earned 10 man Eastleigh a replay against the Welsh side before they were handed a potential tie against Erik ten Hag's side in the fourth round.

Maguire, who turns 35 on the day of the Newport tie, joined the Spitfires in the summer and has struck up a great relationship with top scorer Paul McCallum and Scott Quigley in that time.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday's FA Cup replay against Newport County, Maguire admitted that the potential tie with the Red Devils has been spoken about since the draw came out.

He said: "It would be a great achievement. (Manchester United) are obviously one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I’ve been there myself when I’ve played at bigger clubs. If they turn up here and see (the Silverlake Stadium) with a packed house, some of them might not fancy it.

"That’s just football. That’s how it goes. If we get through then it will be a great day.

"It is pretty normal when something that big comes out, we are going to speak about it. Everyone associated with the football club has spoken about it."

The former Sheffield Wednesday man also revealed that Manchester United were the English club he supported as a boy which makes the potential meeting even more "special."

"Growing up as a kid my English team was Manchester United. That was the team that I liked to watch.

"I played them some years ago in a testimonial match when I was back in Scotland at Aberdeen. To play them in a competitive game will be really special."

There is no sign of the two-time Scottish international overlooking the third-round replay against Graham Coughlan's side, though.

"We are not there yet. We know that. We still have another game to take care of. If it comes then what a great game for the club and the players.

"We have got to be professional about that and do the right thing tomorrow night."

Eastleigh's cup run has already seen them overcome Dover Athletic, Boreham Wood, and League One Reading.

They also had to play for more than an hour with 10 men in the initial tie at Rodney Parade after George Langston was sent off - before Maguire earned the replay.
