YOUNG Saints goalkeeper Josh Jeffries was forced off on a stretcher for loan club Worthing on Saturday.

Jeffries, who signed his first professional contract last week, came out of his box to clear a bouncing, which looped over his head.

As he turned and twisted, he also seemed to clash ankles with an opponent. Replays showed that Jeffries landed badly and his foot was pointing in the wrong direction.

The 18 year old was given gas and air as he was carried from the field on a stretcher but managed to clap Worthing's fans who were also applauding him.

Worthing boss Adam Hinshelwood said: “I went to see Josh at Worthing Hospital and he was going to have a re-alignment before going back to Southampton for an operation."

Jeffries shared a message to supporters, via Worthing's social media, saying: "Hi Worthing fans, I'm gutted about today.

"I'm so proud of the lads for getting the win. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your support, hopefully, I will see you all soon."
