LOANED-OUT Saints midfielder Carlos Alcaraz has picked up a hamstring injury in Juventus training.

A medical update on the Italian giants' website said: “Alcaraz has suffered a muscular problem in his right hamstring on Wednesday.”

The Argentine underwent a medical test on Thursday morning and will be re-evaluated in 10-15 days to determine the extent of the injury and to define the recovery time required.

The 21 year old made his first Juve start on Sunday, providing an assist for Federico Chiesa in their 2-1 defeat to Napoli.

In total, Alcaraz has made four appearances for the Old Lady, who sit second in Serie A, 15 points off league-leaders Inter Milan, since joining on loan in January.

Speaking after Juventus' defeat against Napoli last weekend, manager Massimiliano Allegri said: "Alcaraz had a good game, he just needs to improve. It was nice to see the team helping each other. It's sad because we leave here defeated."

Alcaraz's loan deal at Juventus includes an option to buy priced at £43million. This injury has likely ruled the former Racing Club man out of the upcoming international break.

Alcaraz was handed his first Argentina call-up earlier this season, while still at Saints, but is yet to make his senior debut
