SAINTS midfielder Joe Rothwell has been nominated for February’s Championship goal of the month award. 

The loanee netted a beautiful thigh-high volley into the top corner of the goal against Huddersfield Town last month.

AFC Bournemouth man Rothwell bagged a brace in the thrilling 5-3 win against the Terriers at St Mary’s.

He scored his second just a minute later, with a thunderous effort from close range.

His double drew the Saints level after trailing 2-0 before an own goal and goals from Sekou Mara and Sam Edozie wrapped up all three points for Russell Martin’s side.

The victory saw the team go 25 matches unbeaten before they were defeated 3-1 by Bristol City at Ashton Gate in the following game.

The 29 year old joined on loan from the Cherries in the January transfer window and is up against three other players for the award.

Josh Bowler – Watford vs Cardiff City – February 3.

Ryan Hardie – Sunderland vs Plymouth Argyle – February 10.

Yaser Asprilla – Norwich City v Watford – February 13.

The supporters’ votes will be combined with the choices from a panel to determine the winners.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports EFL pundits Don Goodman and David Prutton with the winner announced on Friday, March 15.
