SWANSEA City are suing Saints manager Russell Martin over his 2023 move to the St Mary's side, the Daily Echo understands.

First reported by The Telegraph, Swansea have followed up on a pledge to pursue full compensation over his exit.

The report revealed that the Championship outfit have sued Martin over "breach of contract" nine months after his departure.

Swansea and Saints were embroiled in a dispute that delayed Martin beginning his work with the club in June 2023.

Swansea were said to be demanding £2million, with Southampton willing to pay just over half that figure, their report adds.

The Daily Echo understands the latest report is true and Martin could face proceedings in High Court over the dispute.

Last summer, a Swansea statement said: “Martin had a little over 12 months remaining on the three-year deal he signed upon arriving at the Swansea.com Stadium in August 2021.

“The club also stands firm in our belief that we are owed full compensation for Russell, and we will continue working diligently and strategically to protect the best interests of the club.”

The dispute centred around the amount Saints were due to pay Swansea to release Martin from his contract.

The amount dictated by the clause differed between a club in the Premier League and the Championship, with Saints relegated that summer.

Martin spent two seasons in South Wales, guiding the Swans to 15th and 10th-place finishes.
