Southampton Academy of Football: End of year report 2023-24.
First team attainment by subject:
Defence: could do better, tendency to drop off towards the end of the session with disastrous consequences.
Attack: good in parts, noticeable inability to take opportunities and all too often fail to hit target.
Midfield: plenty of concerted possession but little to show for it. Reluctance to pass forward and penetrate opposition.
Substitutions: tendency towards panic changes rather than in support of alternative tactics. Too often just scattergun.
General passing: commendable interplay, albeit utterly pointless most of the time.
Tactics: this subject seems to have been largely neglected, little or no thought to alternative options.
Learning potential: largely absent. Only a fool does the same thing expecting different results.
Head’s report: best summed up by wise sage Neil Warnock ‘if the team were in a restaurant they’d spend two hours looking at the menu and leave without ordering anything’.
