SEVEN senior players departed Southampton on loan this season to mixed success.

Saints were required to offload many high earners following relegation, while Russell Martin cited his desire to build a squad in his image.

For some, their temporary departure has seen them rediscover form, while others have spent time sitting on the bench.

Here is a look at how Southampton's senior players fared out on loan during the 2023/24 campaign...

Paul Onuachu

Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu joined Turkish side Trabzonspor after seven unsuccessful months on the South Coast.

The 30 year old only managed 426 minutes in red and white following his £15.5million arrival from Genk.

He has since refound his form in Turkey. The six-foot-six-inch forward hit 17 goals in 25 league appearances, helping his side finish third.

Reports in Turkey suggest Trabzonspor are keen to keep Onuachu, however, they remain a way off Southampton's valuation.

Armel Bella-Kotchap

Upon the announcement of Armel Bella-Kotchap's loan switch to PSV, the German defender explained: "This club gives me the opportunity to play on the biggest stage."

He had been close to joining German giants Bayern Munich, but after that deal fell through on deadline day, he joined PSV at the 11th hour.

Bella-Kotchap's time in the Netherlands has not gone as well as he would have planned from a playing perspective.

Although he ended the season as Dutch champion, he only featured four times in the league after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Bella-Kotchap was in attendance at Wembley Stadium as Southampton beat Leeds United in the Championship playoff final.

It remains to be seen whether he will remain at Saints this summer. Martin is a fan of him but reports have suggested he could be set for an exit.

Lyanco

Another defender who left Saints on in the summer was Lyanco. The Brazilian joined Qatari side Al-Gharafa.

During his time in the Middle East, Lyanco played 13 times in the league, scoring once and getting one assist.

The 27 year old recently revealed he has been taking medication to combat anxiety and panic attacks.

Saints boss Martin praised the defender for opening up about his struggles.

Lyanco reportedly rejected a permanent switch to Al-Gharafa and will now return to Southampton as he looks to earn a move to Brazil or another team in Europe.

Duje Caleta-Car

The third centre-back that departed St Mary's on loan ahead of the 2023/24 season was Croatian Duje Caleta-Car.

The former Marseille defender returned to Ligue 1, joining Lyon on a deal containing an option to buy.

After a tough start to the season, which saw Lyon languishing in the relegation zone, Les Gones recovered to qualify for the Europa League.

Caleta-Car was a regular during the season but has missed out on a spot in Croatia's squad for this summer's European Championship.

Romain Perraud

Full-back Romain Perraud returned to his home country by joining Nice on loan until the end of the season.

He would have hoped for regular football in the South of France following Ryan Manning's arrival from Swansea City.

However, the 26 year old also saw his action limited in Ligue 1.

He only featured 19 times, staring twice, as Nice finished fifth.

Mateusz Lis

Much like Onuachu, Mateusz Lis stock has risen following a loan switch to Turkey.

The Polish goalkeeper joined Sport Republic sister club Goztepe on a season-long deal.

He played a key role between the sticks, keeping 20 clean sheets as they earned promotion to the Turkish top flight.

Reports on the continent suggest the 27 year old could stay at Goztepe next season for their return to the Super Lig.

Charly Alcaraz

Fan favourite Charly departed Southampton for Italian giants Juventus during the winter transfer window.

The deal to take the Argentinian to the Old Lady contained an option-to-buy clause priced at £43million.

In truth, it looks unlikely that the 36-time Italian champions will activate that clause given Alcaraz's limited involvement while at the club.

The 21 year old made just 10 appearances as an injury suffered early in his time at the club halted his momentum.

The former Racing Club man did set up on goal and will leave Italy as a Coppa Italia winner after Juventus beat Napoli 1-0 in the final.
