FORMER Saints boss George Burley is undergoing treatment for cancer, a statement has confirmed.
Burley, 68, spent just over two years as Saints boss between December 2005 and January 2008, taking charge of 95 games before becoming Scotland manager.
He took Saints to the Championship play-offs in 2007 but suffered a penalty defeat to Derby after drawing 4-4 on aggregate.
In a statement posted by Burley's former club Ipswich, he explained how he is feeling "much brighter" following his diagnosis.
Burley said: "After feeling unwell earlier this year, I have recently received a diagnosis and I am taking positive action to fight the disease.
"It has been a difficult time, but I am feeling much brighter now. We are grateful to Ipswich for the support they have shown me and my family and I would ask that everyone is respectful of our privacy at this time.”
