SAINTS boss Russell Martin admitted Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie at Everton would be a chance for fringe players to "stake a claim."
Martin named a fully rotated side for Southampton's thrilling 5-3 win at Cardiff City in the last round, leaving most of the first-team regulars at home.
He is not expected to name as youthful of a squad at Goodison Park as the two winless Premier League sides look to get one over their fellow strugglers.
Here's how we predict Martin's Saints to lineup as they look to book a place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup...
Goalkeeper
Joe Lumley was between the sticks at the Cardiff City Stadium but we anticipate that Alex McCarthy will return in goal having missed the last two games.
The former England international has lost his number-one spot following Aaron Ramsdale's arrival. His role should now switch to being the designated 'cup goalie.'
Defenders
Martin has left the door open to Armel Bella-Kotchap playing, however, Taylor Harwood-Bellis could do with the minutes - and should partner Nathan Wood.
James Bree scored a stunner in the third round and will likely return at left-back, while Charlie Taylor should come in to give Kyle Walker-Peters a rest.
Midfielders
Chelsea loanee Lesley Ugochukwu impressed Martin during his first Premier League start for Saints before being withdrawn after 62 minutes.
He should keep his place in the team and play just behind Joe Aribo and Will Smallbone - should the Irish international be deemed fit. Failing that, Adam Lallana should get a start.
Forwards
Ryan Fraser and Maxwel Cornet came on for their first appearances since arriving on deadline day against Manchester United and will likely continue to build up their fitness.
Martin admitted Ross Stewart is not ready to start yet, which should open the door for Adam Armstrong to start through the middle.
Full predicted team
(4-3-3) McCarthy; Bree, Harwood-Bellis, Wood, Taylor; Ugochukwu, Aribo, Smallbone; Cornet, Fraser, Armstrong.
