MIDFIELDER Flynn Downes made sure to credit the incredible Saints fans for their continued support despite the club's relegation.
Downes, 26, pointed out the efforts of the travelling supporters during and after Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Ham in the Premier League.
The St Mary's side had already been confirmed as relegated two weeks prior and had not picked up a point on the road since the start of February.
However, they constantly outsung the hosts at London Stadium, and have drawn praise from club staff and pundits alike already this season.
"That's why we do it. As I said before, we've obviously been relegated already," said Downes, following the 93rd minute equaliser.
"The fans still turn up. They're still packed away and singing the whole time through. It was good to get out with them. It was good scenes."
Lesley Ugochukwu's late volley earned a rare point at the former home of Downes, in the second match of Simon Rusk's second spell as interim boss.
It has taken Saints to 11 points with five matches still to play before preparations begin for the Championship campaign next season.
"We 100 per cent deserved a point. I think that was the least we deserved, really. I think we had so many chances in first half," said Downes.
"Hitting the bar, Kyle's chance, Ty's chance in the second half. I thought it was the least we deserved but it's a tough place to come."
