FORMER Premier League chairman and talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has claimed a rumour is circulating that Saints are up for sale.

The Daily Echo first heard of the rumour last week, which stipulated a potential £125million price tag, but it was denied by club sources.

Outspoken radio personality Jordan was chairman of Crystal Palace between 2000 and 2010, and now hosts his own talkshow on TalkSPORT.

Discussing the relegated three, Jordan said: "On the basis of performances this season, Ipswich haven't got any more stability than Southampton.

"There is a rumour going around that Southampton are up for sale but the fact of the matter is that they have all gone down with no great credit."

Sport Republic's lead investor Dragan Solak has been frustrated by the club's performance in the Premier League this season.

However, in January, Solak told TalkSPORT: "I feel completely at home here and I'm as passionate as ever to make this club successful.

"That's why I decided to assume the chair. I show everybody that I'm going nowhere and I will do everything I can to make it work."

Amid poor performance, Sport Republic co-owner Kraft stepped down as chairman of Saints earlier this season and was replaced by Solak himself.

“Our aim was to stay in the Premier League, and I know our fans share in my frustration at how this season has gone so far," said Solak.

Solak's investment firm Sport Republic have owned Saints since they acquired a majority share from former owner Gao Jisheng in January 2022.

Contemporary reports claimed that Sport Republic, set up by Solak, Rasmus Ankersen and Henrik Kraft, agreed a £100million deal to acquire Saints.

The club was relegated from the Premier League in their first full season at the helm, before winning promotion back at the first time of asking.

However, manager-less Saints are on course for another bottom-place finish in the top flight and preparing for life in the Championship again.
