SAINTS have reportedly agreed a €7.5million (£6.5million) deal to sell defender Jan Bednarek to Portuguese giants Porto.

The 29 year old has played 254 times for the St Mary’s side since he joined from Lech Poznan in 2017 but has been put up for sale this summer.

Polish international Bednarek expressed his desire to leave the club in the summer window after a transfer offer from AS Roma was rejected in January.

Bednarek had signed a new three-year contract in September 2024, following his key role in the 2023/24 Championship promotion-winning team.

He was left out of Southampton's pre-season tour to Girona, Spain, by boss Will Still amid the expectation that he would depart the club.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Saints have agreed the deal, worth €7.5m, to sell Bednarek to Liga Portugal's third-place finishers.

The sale represents a small profit for Saints, who signed the centre-back from Poznan in his native Poland eight years ago for around £5m.

He becomes the third major sale at St Mary's this month, following the exits of Kamaldeen Sulemana and Paul Onuachu for a combined £24.5m.

Saints still have Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Jack Stephens, Joshua Quarshie, Ronnie Edwards, Nathan Wood and Joachim Kayi-Sanda at centre-back.
