SAINTS manager Will Still insisted he will keep fighting for as long as he is in the job, but he accepted he could be sacked after defeat to Preston.

The St Mary's side were handed a sixth defeat in 13 Championship matches when the Lancashire outfit rocked up to win 2-0 on the south coast.

The result leaves Saints only three points off the relegation zone, with 10 points already separating them and the top six in play-off positions.

Still said he "knows how the world of football works" when he was asked if he fears for his job following the match, in which fans chanted for his sacking.

He said: "I'm a human being and I know where we are in the league and what that looks like from the outside and how the world of football works.

"I'm not going to give up. I'm not going to sit here and feel sorry for myself. I'll question myself first, I always do, and fight as long as I'm here.

"As long as people give me the opportunity to do that, that's exactly what I'll do. I don't think the players have given up on anything," Still added.

"I think they are struggling to find a bit of confidence, nous and know-how.

"But I think if you saw the training ground, the environment that we're trying to create and trying to build, I don't think any player could come out and say that it's not the right one or that he doesn't feel a part of it.

"But again, we've got to stop being naïve and nice about things and actually put our foot down and do it, and we haven't done it."
